Commitment for the Promotion of Mental Health & Psychosocial Support in Nepal

Vision / Mission / Goals

People in Nepal are aware of mental health issues and persons living with mental health and psychosocial problems live a dignified life and enjoy their rights to health services.

To promote mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of the people living with mental health problems in Nepal, especially children and women, by working closely working with the Line Ministries to develop human resource and with communities and community based organizations to create public awareness and community empowerment.

To develop CMC-Nepal as a centre of excellence that brings improvements in the lives of people affected by mental health and psychosocial problems in Nepal by:

  • Developing mental health and psychosocial skills and knowledge among health professionals, teachers and development workers
  • Strengthen mental health and psychosocial services in existing primary health care system
  • Empowering communities and community based organisations for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of persons with mental health and psychosocial disorders through social mobilisation
  • Working with the Government of Nepal to review and draft a Mental Health Policy and Legislation
  • Creating public awareness to reduce the social stigma against mental illness

CMC-Nepal works with the principles of rights based development and social mobilization approaches towards achieving its vision and mission by building institutional capacity and developing human resources in mental health and psychosocial services, raising public awareness and advocacy for national mental health policy.
