Karnali Earthquake Recovery- MHPSS Project (KER-MHPSS) December 2024 to December 2027)

CMC-Nepal is implementing Karnali Earthquake Recovery-MHPSS Project in Nalagad Municipality and Barekot Rural Municipality of Jajarkot, and Sanibheri Rural Municipality of West Rukum. The project is being implemented in coordination with the project municipalities and consortium partnership with Panchtra Yuva Samrakshak Manch (PYTSM) and Apangata Swawalambam Sanstha Jajarkot (ASSR). CBM- Global provided financial and technical support to the project.

The KER-MHPSS project, was developed to support recovery following the Jajarkot Earthquake that caused loss of life, property, and worsened existing vulnerabilities, including mental health issues. The affected areas had limited access to mental health and psychosocial support services. The project aims to strengthen community-based MHPSS, enhance disability inclusion, and support policy improvements to contribute improvement of well-being and resiliencies in the project municipalities. It also seeks to integrate mental health into primary care and disaster management for long-term recovery and sustainability.

Overall Objective

Improved mental health, psychosocial well-being and resilience of individuals and communities affected by Jajarkot earthquake 2023

Specific Objective

Individuals and communities affected by the Jajarkot Earthquake have enhanced access to inclusive mental health and psychosocial support services through strong government health system and integration of mental health and disability rights into existing community function by 2027

Result 1: Improved access to mental health and psychosocial support services through government health system and community support mechanisms.

Result 2: Increased community awareness of mental health and psychosocial issues through accessible means.

Result 3: OPDs and SHGs are leading advocacy on safety, protection and rights of people affected by the earthquake, including those with mental health conditions and disabilities

Result 4: Inclusive practices in government Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS) and recovery/rehabilitation efforts, ensuring equitable access and support for all individuals.

Result 5: Improved capacity of CMC Nepal’s and stakeholders on inclusive DRRM and humanitarian readiness.
